Spruce Grouse are medium-sized, stocky, bird with a short neck and a short tail. Spruce Grouse females are overall gray or rufous, and cryptically patterned. Spruce Grouse male are similar, but have  red
eyebrows and a black throat. Spruce Grouse males also have a black tail with white spots that are distinctive when the tail is fanned out. Spruce Grouse body are a bolder black than the female's, with white spots on the body and white lines on the face . Spruce Grouse weigh around 14.12-22.95 ounces
